On August 31, 2026, the J. Paul Getty Museum announced 'The Holy Family at Home,' an exhibition examining domestic intimacy in Northern Renaissance images of the Holy Family. The show centers on Gerard David's recently acquired painting 'The Holy Family' (about 1520), alongside illuminated manuscripts and panel paintings from about 1400 to 1530 from Getty collections and California loans, including works by Rogier van der Weyden, Dieric Bouts, and Quentin Metsys. It will be on view at the Getty Center in Los Angeles from September 22, 2026 through January 10, 2027. Curated by Anne Woollett and Elizabeth Morrison, the exhibition traces how David portrayed Joseph as an engaged father and provider, a model that reshaped later depictions of the Holy Family.
