The Facts
Grisebach will offer Yves Klein's 'Untitled Shroud Anthropometry (ANT SU 30)' from 1960 in its 'Selected Works' sale on November 26, 2026, with an estimate of €2,000,000–3,000,000. The work is one of the few 'Anthropométries Suaires' still in private hands. Klein dedicated it to Swiss filmmaker Yvan Butler, who filmed his 1961 exhibition at Museum Haus Lange in Krefeld, linking the piece to the Rhineland art scene and the ZERO movement. It was acquired in 1985 from Gallery 44 in Kaarst by a private collection in North Rhine-Westphalia, where it has remained. The work will be previewed in Paris, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Zurich, Düsseldorf, and Berlin before the auction.
The Signal
The sale of this rare 'shroud' Anthropometry offers collectors a chance to acquire a work that embodies Klein's core tension between presence and absence. Unlike his performed Anthropometries, this piece was made as a contact print, with the canvas wrapped around paint-coated body parts, leaving a trace in International Klein Blue, pink, and black. Its provenance, directly tied to the ZERO circle and a single-owner collection for four decades, adds historical depth. For collectors focused on post-war European avant-garde, this is a significant opportunity to secure a work from a limited group of some thirty known 'Anthropométries Suaires' identified by critic Pierre Restany.
