The Facts
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi shared the architectural vision for Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, designed by the late Pritzker Prize-winning architect Frank Gehry. Located in the Saadiyat Cultural District, the museum is inspired by Abu Dhabi's landscape, climate and coastal setting. It features 28 galleries, 11,600 square metres of interior space and 23,000 square metres of outdoor exhibition areas, including ten distinctive cones. The museum opens December 11, 2026.
The Signal
The unveiling solidifies Abu Dhabi's strategy of positioning culture at its global center, following the Louvre Abu Dhabi. For collectors and curators, the museum's transcultural programming and site-specific architecture signal a major new platform for contemporary art in the Middle East. The posthumous realization of Gehry's design adds historical significance to the project.
