Exhibition Guggenheim

On June 23, 2026, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum announced a five-day pop-up display of Jordyn Woods’s Tux Clutch Mini bag at the Guggenheim New York’s Café Rebay. The bag, designed by Woods and worn during the New York Knicks’ thirteen-game winning streak and 2026 NBA championship victory, will be on view from June 24 through June 28. Last week the bag appeared at the Knicks’ ticker-tape parade, where Mayor Zohran Mamdani held it. The presentation continues the museum’s examination of connections between art, culture, and sport, referencing works such as Lin Yilin’s Monad (2018) and Tschabalala Self’s Sprewell (2020).

The Signal

The display signals how museums are positioning themselves as repositories for objects that capture collective cultural moments beyond traditional fine art. For collectors and curators it underscores the Guggenheim’s strategy of linking athletic achievement with institutional programming, potentially elevating the market and curatorial status of design objects tied to high-profile public events. The collaboration with Woods and Karl-Anthony Towns also illustrates how institutions leverage timely civic celebrations to broaden audiences while maintaining focus on discipline, creativity, and teamwork shared by artists and athletes.
