On September 15, 2026, the Guggenheim New York announced that Taryn Simon | Father Country I Do Love You will open on September 18, 2026, marking the first monographic exhibition by a photography-based artist in the museum's iconic spiral rotunda. The exhibition, nearly a decade in the making, presents a new body of work by Taryn Simon (b. 1975, New York) that fills the entire rotunda with never-before-seen photographs, texts, videos, and sculptures. Titled Father Country I Do Love You (2026), the project traces the real life of an unnamed federal agent through 42 multipart artworks, or "chapters," and includes an interactive installation where visitors release colored balls that wind down the rotunda. The exhibition is organized by Nat Trotman, Curator, Performance and Media, and was initiated by Nancy Spector, former Artistic Director and Jennifer and David Stockman Chief Curator.
The Signal
This exhibition marks a significant moment in Simon's career, integrating personal storytelling into her practice for the first time, and all works have entered the Guggenheim's permanent collection. The project, developed in collaboration with Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin, where it will be on view from fall 2027 through spring 2028, also includes a unique audio guide narrated by Jodie Foster and an AI-generated voice clone of Simon's father.
