Hauser & Wirth Acquires Historic Palazzo Forcella De Seta in Palermo for New Cultural Destination
Hauser & Wirth acquired Palazzo Forcella De Seta in Palermo in early 2026. The 18th-century building with 16th-century elements overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea in the Kalsa quarter and features Arab-Norman, Gothic and neoclassical architecture including mosaics, stucco frescoes and a courtyard garden. The gallery will undertake conservation to restore the structure and open it as a public cultural destination. The site previously hosted Manifesta in 2018 and was acquired from previous owner ANCE.
The Signal
The move expands Hauser & Wirth’s European footprint into a historic Mediterranean site long associated with cultural exchange. Collectors and curators will gain a new venue for programming that places contemporary work in dialogue with centuries of Sicilian architectural history, potentially increasing the gallery’s capacity for site-specific projects and public access.
