Hauser & Wirth Menorca Opens Education Lab 'Bitácora' in Collaboration with Universities
Hauser & Wirth Menorca has launched its 2026 Education Lab, 'Bitácora,' developed in collaboration with the University of the Balearic Islands and the University of Barcelona. The student-led program explores learning beyond institutional settings, responding to themes of the group exhibition 'Directionless,' organized by artist Rashid Johnson. Peer-led sessions began in March between MA Art Production and BA Fine Arts students from the University of Barcelona and BA Primary and Infant Teaching students at the University of the Balearic Islands, including masterclasses with exhibiting artists and a residency for Barcelona-based MA students in Mahon. The resulting interactive Education Lab will offer visitors opportunities for participation and making throughout the season.

The Education Lab is part of Hauser & Wirth's broader commitment to inclusive learning programs across its galleries in Menorca, Somerset, and Downtown Los Angeles. 'Directionless,' opening this summer, features over 25 artists including Firelei Báez, Georg Baselitz, Julie Mehretu, and Wangechi Mutu, with Johnson inviting Charles Gaines, Firelei Báez, and Cristina Iglesias to nominate artists outside the gallery's roster. This initiative signals the gallery's deepening investment in experimental pedagogy and collaborative research as a core part of its programming, positioning the Menorca outpost as a site for cross-institutional artistic exchange.
