The Facts
Hauser & Wirth Somerset has announced the Forest of Selwood as its new charity partner for the September 2026 – August 2027 period, replacing Good Company Bruton, which was supported from July 2024 – August 2026. The gallery raised over £31,000 for Good Company Bruton through visitor donations, community programming, and events. Founded in 2020, the Forest of Selwood aims to revive nature, reconnect people with the landscape, and slow climate change through ecological initiatives focused on restoring the Anglo-Saxon Forest of Selwood in Somerset and Wiltshire. Its 2026–2027 initiatives include the Dormouse Recovery Project, the Meadows Restoration Project (restoring 25 acres of wildflower meadows), and the Long Ham Meadow Nature Recovery Project (transforming 15 acres of wetland habitat).
The Signal
The shift from Good Company Bruton, a locally-focused volunteer-run charity, to the Forest of Selwood, a broader ecological restoration organization, signals Hauser & Wirth’s deepening commitment to environmental sustainability in its rural Somerset operations. This partnership leverages the gallery’s visitor base and programming to fund measurable conservation goals—such as floodplain woodland restoration and species recovery—turning art patronage into direct ecological impact. For collectors and artists aligned with climate causes, this announcement underscores how Hauser & Wirth positions itself as a cultural anchor with tangible community and environmental responsibilities beyond commercial exhibition-making.
