The Facts
Haegue Yang's solo exhibition 'Through' opens at Dia Beacon on October 10, 2026, and remains on view through June 12, 2028. It is Yang's first solo presentation with Dia Beacon and the first time an artist has conceived a new body of work spanning the museum's two stacked architectural levels. The show comprises four new commissions informed by East Asian Five Phases theory and by Isang Yun's 1968 quartet 'Images,' which links instruments to the cardinal directions and colors of Four Guardian Deities from a Goguryeo-era tomb mural. Works range from paper collage, video, and sound to performance, sculpture, and large-scale installation; the Sejong Soloists performed Yun's piece in the lower-level gallery on opening day.
The Signal
Dia's roughly twenty-month run is a rare institutional commitment, reflecting its mission as a conduit for large-scale, long-duration projects. The commission reinforces Yang's standing as a contemporary artist who can address architecture, sound, and craft, and it positions non-Western conceptual structures—here, Five Phases theory—at the center of a major museum presentation.
