Kunsthaus Zürich Announces 2026 Programme Featuring Kerry James Marshall, Marisol, and Hammershøi
The Facts
On November 3, 2025, Kunsthaus Zürich unveiled its 2026 annual programme, which includes major exhibitions of Kerry James Marshall, Félicien Rops, Marisol, Vilhelm Hammershøi, and a joint show of Maria Lassnig and Edvard Munch. The programme also marks the 125th anniversary of Alberto Giacometti’s birth with new collection arrangements, and continues the ‘ReCollect!’ series with Wolfgang Laib and Wu Tsang. A reinstallation of the Foundation E.G. Bührle collection will begin at the end of March 2026. The museum’s director, Ann Demeester, framed the season around the theme of change, referencing Jeffrey Gibson’s foyer installation ‘We continue to change’.
The Signal
The 2026 lineup reflects Kunsthaus Zürich’s strategic emphasis on polyphony and contradiction, pairing contemplative works (Hammershøi, Laib) with socially engaged artists (Rops, Lassnig, Munch) and large-scale installations (Marisol, Monster Chetwynd’s ‘Zardoz’ in the Chipperfield Garden). The programme underscores the museum’s commitment to using its collection as a living core while fostering international and local collaborations. For collectors and curators, the season signals a continued institutional push to reframe historical narratives through contemporary lenses, particularly in the recontextualization of the Bührle collection amid ongoing provenance discussions.
