Kunsthaus Zürich Awards ‘KunstXausZürich’ Pop-Up to ‘summer of something’ and ‘Clubhaus’
Kunsthaus Zürich has awarded its temporary ‘KunstXausZürich’ project space to two collectives following a call that drew more than 90 applications. ‘summer of something’, comprising uqbar, Hamlet x 2BBH, unanimous consent, unspace and Rojo y Negro, will occupy the former restaurant from 9 June to 29 July; ‘Clubhaus – Home of the New’ by Lhaga Koondhor, Shamiran Istifan and Dave Marshal will run from 8 August to 7 October. The jury included Daniel Baumann, Giovanni Carmine, Esther Eppstein, Raphael Gygax, Mirjam Varadinis and Ann Demeester. The projects receive initial funding and communications support from the museum.
The Signal
The initiative revives the Zürcher Kunstgesellschaft’s 19th-century practice of artist-run spaces and extends the institution’s reach beyond its core site. By handing programming control to independent collectives from Zurich-Oerlikon and elsewhere, the museum tests new models of hospitality, performance and subcultural exchange inside its own building. Collectors and curators will watch whether the hybrid bar, reading room and glitch-based installations generate sustained audiences or point toward repeatable institutional strategies for temporary activation.
