The Facts

On December 3, 2024, Kunsthaus Zürich announced it will join the 'Connect' program, a dance training initiative for people living with Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis. The project was launched in February 2024 by Ballett Zürich, the Tonhalle-Gesellschaft Zürich, the performance group The Field, and the Dance & Creative Wellness Foundation. The program has now expanded from two to three weekly groups, led by Clare Guss-West, with some sessions moving into the exhibition spaces of the Kunsthaus. Participants also visit the Opernhaus Zürich and Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich as part of the project.

The Signal

The involvement of a major art museum signals a growing institutional commitment to integrating arts and health. Kunsthaus director Ann Demeester cited scientific evidence that art promotes physical and mental well-being, echoing similar programs for dementia and Alzheimer's. The collaboration across ballet, orchestra, and visual arts creates a unique interdisciplinary model that may inspire other cultural institutions to develop community health initiatives. For collectors and curators, this reflects a broader trend of museums expanding their social role beyond exhibitions.
