The Facts

Laure Prouvost opens 'Mère We Sea' on September 5, 2026, a monumental, site-responsive installation at the chapel of De Noker in Mechelen, Belgium, as part of the Contour Biennale. The work transforms the former religious and care institution into a fluid environment suspended between memory, dream and marine imagination, featuring a central sculptural form surrounded by rotating mobiles and glass elements, with light and sound evoking both the intimacy of the womb and the vastness of the sea. The installation runs through November 1, 2026.

The Signal

Prouvost, known for immersive mixed-media installations spanning film, sculpture, sound, performance and language, continues her exploration of miscommunication and the slippages between words, images and meaning. 'Mère We Sea' represents a significant site-specific intervention that aligns with the biennale's focus on contemporary art in non-traditional spaces, offering collectors and curators a chance to experience Prouvost's associative storytelling in a historically charged architectural context.
