The Facts

On October 12, 2026, Lisson Gallery announced that Otobong Nkanga's exhibition 'I dreamt of you in colours' has opened at Malmö Konsthall in Sweden, on view through March 28, 2027. The show is the first large-scale presentation of Nkanga's work in Sweden, featuring drawings, paintings, installations, tapestries, photographs, videos, sculpture, ceramics, and performance. It follows presentations at the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris and the Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne. Nkanga's multidisciplinary practice examines the relationships between bodies, land, and natural resources, tracing colonial exploitation and resource extraction while exploring repair and transformation.

The Signal

The exhibition arrives shortly after Nkanga received the 2026 Sikkens Prize, which recognized her use of color. Later this month, on October 27, 2026, a second exhibition titled 'Humus Blues' opens at Singer Laren in the Netherlands, bringing together existing works and new pieces. The concurrent presentations underscore Nkanga's rising institutional profile and the growing market interest in artists who address ecological and postcolonial themes through layered, material-based practices. For collectors, the survey format and prize recognition signal a moment of career consolidation.
