The Facts
On October 12, 2026, Lisson Gallery announced New Work: 2026, Tishan Hsu's first solo exhibition in Piraeus, Greece, presented with The Intermission. On view through December 19, 2026, it features new works incorporating AI-generated imagery, with ear-like orifices set in industrial and pastoral landscapes. Using UV-cured inkjet printing, screenprinting and silicone casting, Hsu applies images to rounded, screen-like supports whose reverse glows with vibrant color. Hsu, who lives in New York, recently showed at the Museum of Contemporary Art Toronto and MAMCO, Geneva, in 2024, and at Secession, Vienna, in 2023–24.
The Signal
With AI-generated imagery at its center, the project updates a concern Hsu has pursued since the mid-1980s: the shifting boundary between organic and artificial life. For collectors, it signals sustained institutional interest in his practice, reinforced by recent museum showings in Toronto, Geneva, and Vienna. The Piraeus collaboration also extends Lisson's international programming beyond its London, New York, Shanghai, and Los Angeles spaces, introducing a longtime practitioner to a Greek audience.
