The Facts
On November 3, 2026, Lisson Gallery announced that Sir John Akomfrah is featured in the 2026 Wuhan Biennale, titled “Temporary Ferry,” at Wuhan Art Museum. The biennale brings together more than 370 artists from 22 countries, presenting over 500 works and groups of works across the museum’s Hankou and Qintai venues and public spaces throughout Wuhan. Led by chief curator Wu Hongliang, the exhibition explores movement, encounter and cultural exchange. Akomfrah’s installation “Listening All Night To The Rain (Canto I/Portico)” (2024) is on view; the biennale is open through May 30, 2027.
The Signal
Akomfrah’s participation places his work within the biennale’s focus on movement, encounter and cultural exchange. For collectors, inclusion in a survey of more than 370 artists in China adds institutional visibility that can support demand for his installations. The announcement also highlights Lisson’s engagement with China, where it maintains a Shanghai space.
