Lisson Gallery to Present US Premiere of John Akomfrah’s 'Listening All Night To The Rain'
Lisson Gallery in New York is presenting the US premiere of John Akomfrah's eight-canto work Listening All Night To The Rain. The exhibition debuts the central multi-channel film Canto VI (2024) and adapts the project's structure into a focused cinematic installation. Akomfrah applies Ezra Pound's modular canto logic to organize colonial archives, diasporic memory, Black Atlantic histories and climate narratives across multiple screens.
The Signal
The presentation continues Akomfrah's exploration of non-linear, fragmentary forms first shown at the British Pavilion in the sixtieth Venice Biennale. For collectors and curators it demonstrates how the artist repositions literary structures as tools for holding disparate historical fragments in tension, extending his established practice in multi-channel video installation.
