The Facts
On October 7, 2026, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art announced the display of C.B. Evans' major work 'Hyperlinks or It Didn't Happen' in the museum's Great Hall. The work, part of the museum's collection and acquired with support from the Augustinus Foundation, was created by Belgian-American artist Cécile B. Evans (b. 1983). The film, sculpture, and installation piece centers on PHIL, a digital substitute for a recently deceased actor, and explores how digital alter egos shape emotional lives and perception in an increasingly online culture. Other digital beings in the work include a Japanese hologram pop star, a spambot, and an invisible woman, among others.
The Signal
The exhibition underscores the Louisiana Museum's commitment to engaging with contemporary digital culture and its impact on human identity. For collectors and curators, Evans' work represents a critical intersection of new media and emotional experience, reflecting a broader trend in art institutions to address the virtualization of selfhood. The display also highlights the museum's ongoing collaboration with the Louisiana Channel, which produces video content extending the museum's reach beyond its physical space.
