M+ Announces Summer Cinema Series with Kirsten Dunst, Warhol, and ASEAN Film Festival
On June 25, 2026, M+ in Hong Kong announced its M+ Cinema Summer Edition, running from July to September 2026. The program features three landmark films starring Kirsten Dunst, including "Interview with the Vampire," "The Virgin Suicides," and "Melancholia." Andy Warhol's "Screen Tests" (1963–1966) will be shown at the Grand Stair during museum hours, while his film "Sleep" (1963) screens free on six Friday nights from August 7 to October 2. Encore! Stair in the Dark Favourites brings back four popular titles, and Rediscoveries presents "Jaws" and "Raging Bull." The fourth ASEAN Film Festival, co-presented with the Hong Kong-ASEAN Foundation, focuses on music and sound in Southeast Asian cinema, with screenings, talks, and a listening session. Tickets for major programmes are now available.
The Signal
This summer edition reinforces M+'s strategy of integrating moving image as a core curatorial pillar, blurring lines between art and cinema. The spotlight on Warhol's durational works, alongside the resurgence of classic Hollywood and cult films, offers audiences a rare, immersive experience that aligns with the museum's mission to challenge conventional viewing. For collectors, the ASEAN Film Festival provides a platform for emerging Southeast Asian filmmakers, potentially signaling future market interest in the region's cinematic art. The program also leverages M+'s architectural space, turning the Grand Stair into a screening venue, which may influence how museums design for time-based media.
