The Facts
On August 31, 2026, M+ in Hong Kong announced its M+ Cinema Summer Edition, running from July to September 2026. The programme features a Kirsten Dunst retrospective with three landmark films, Andy Warhol's Screen Tests (1963–1966) and Sleep (1963), and the return of popular titles including Trainspotting, Twilight, Belladonna of Sadness, and American Psycho. Rediscoveries includes Steven Spielberg's Jaws and Martin Scorsese's Raging Bull. The fourth ASEAN Film Festival, co-presented with the Hong Kong-ASEAN Foundation, focuses on music and sound in Southeast Asian cinema, with screenings, talks, and a listening session. Free screenings of Warhol's Sleep will be held on six Friday nights from 7 August to 2 October.
The Signal
The summer edition underscores M+'s commitment to expanding its moving-image programming beyond traditional gallery exhibitions, positioning the museum as a key venue for cinematic culture in Asia. The inclusion of the ASEAN Film Festival highlights M+'s regional focus and its role in fostering cross-cultural dialogue. For collectors and cinephiles, the programme offers rare big-screen access to both canonical and cult films, reinforcing the museum's appeal as a destination for immersive visual culture.
