The Facts
On October 15, 2026, M+, the museum of contemporary visual culture in Hong Kong's West Kowloon Cultural District, announced its fifth anniversary celebrations. The museum, which opened in 2021, has welcomed over 12.5 million visitors. The programme runs November 1–8, 2026, featuring the inaugural M+ Restored Festival with nine restored Hong Kong New Wave films, a concert by Cantopop band RubberBand, and free admission on November 8. M+ stewards a collection of over 9,000 works.
The Signal
The milestone underscores M+'s rapid ascent as a central institution in Asia and a key global network node. Its attendance record and international touring exhibitions, such as the Yayoi Kusama survey drawing 1.65 million visitors across three cities, demonstrate broad appeal. The launch of M+ Academy in November 2026 signals a strategic shift towards leadership development, solidifying its role beyond exhibition-making.
