MoMA Appoints Cécile Godefroy as Blanchette Hooker Rockefeller Curator of Painting and Sculpture
The Museum of Modern Art has named Cécile Godefroy the new Blanchette Hooker Rockefeller Curator of Painting and Sculpture. Godefroy joins MoMA from the Musée national Picasso-Paris, where she serves as Head of the Department of Research and Archives and Deputy Director for Scientific and Collections and oversees the Centre d’Études Picasso. She will assume her new role in mid-November 2025. Ann Temkin, the Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis Chief Curator of Painting and Sculpture, said the appointment brings a colleague whose perspective and experience with collections and exhibitions align with MoMA's current work.
The Signal
The hire adds specialized knowledge of the historical avant-garde and transdisciplinary methods to MoMA's painting and sculpture department. Godefroy's move from a leading Picasso institution points to sustained institutional emphasis on modern collections research and exhibitions. Curators and collectors tracking MoMA programming can expect continued integration of archival and scholarly approaches in future projects.
