The National Gallery of Art has received a gift of 1,261 photographs from American photographer Mitch Epstein and his wife Susan Bell, establishing the museum as the primary institutional repository for his work. The acquisition spans Epstein's five-decade career, including major series such as 'American Power,' 'A Language of New York,' and 'Family Business.' The collection includes both color and black-and-white works documenting American economic, environmental, and civic life from the 1970s to the present.
