National Gallery of Art Receives $116 Million Gift from Mitchell P. Rales Family Foundation

via National Gallery of Art

The National Gallery of Art received a $116 million gift from the Mitchell P. Rales Family Foundation to endow the Across the Nation national lending program. Announced April 21, 2026, the gift commemorates America’s 250th anniversary and will fund the program in perpetuity. Launched in 2025, Across the Nation places key works from the museum’s collection on long-term loan at regional museums nationwide. The pilot phase reached nearly 900,000 visitors at 10 partner museums since the loans were installed in spring 2025.

The Mitchell P. Rales Family Foundation gift endows the National Gallery of Art's Across the Nation lending program at a level that removes prior budget constraints on circulation.
