Tate Modern Opens Frida: The Making of an Icon Exhibition on Kahlo's Global Rise

via Tate

Tate Modern opens Frida: The Making of an Icon on June 25, 2026, in collaboration with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. The exhibition presents over 30 works by Frida Kahlo, including Self-Portrait (With Velvet Dress) 1926 and The Frame 1938, alongside photographs, personal artefacts and pieces by artists such as Diego Rivera, María Izquierdo, Kiki Smith and Yasumasa Morimura. It traces Kahlo's evolution from the 1920s through her surrealist connections, Chicana/o movement reception and later commercial legacy across more than 200 objects.

Tate Modern's June 25 opening of Frida: The Making of an Icon, with over 30 works in collaboration with Houston, sets the summer benchmark for Kahlo presentations in Europe.
