The Morning Signal

August 18, 2026

Good morning. A quiet Tuesday: the big story is Louvre Abu Dhabi unveiling 'Picasso, the Figure,' a focused survey of the artist's human forms.

THE LEAD

Louvre Abu Dhabi Presents Major Picasso Exhibition 'Picasso, the Figure'

via Louvre Abu Dhabi

Louvre Abu Dhabi has announced a landmark monographic exhibition, "Picasso, the Figure," tracing Pablo Picasso's lifelong preoccupation with the human form. The exhibition features landmark artworks from the Musée National Picasso-Paris, alongside loans from the Louvre Museum, Mobilier National, Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, and other regional collections, highlighting the artist's influence on the Arab world. The show explores themes of love, identity, creation, and transformation through some of the world's most iconic portraits. The exhibition is on view for a limited time, with an accompanying talk by co-curator Cécile Debray, President of the Musée National Picasso–Paris, and Aisha Al Ahmadi, Associate Curator at Louvre Abu Dhabi.

Louvre Abu Dhabi's 'Picasso, the Figure' avoids chronological sprawl by isolating the body as his core subject, a curatorial bet that could test Gulf audience appetite for figurative modernism.
