Serpentine to Present David Hockney Exhibition Featuring New Paintings and Monumental Frieze in 2026
Serpentine Galleries will present an exhibition of new and recent works by David Hockney at Serpentine North from March 12 to August 23, 2026. The exhibition showcases five still lifes and five portraits depicting members of the artist's close circle alongside the monumental frieze A Year in Normandie (2020-2021), making its London debut. Admission to the show, the artist's first at Serpentine, will be free. A large-scale printed mural highlighting a scene from the frieze will be installed in the garden at Serpentine North.
The Signal
This presentation at a major London institution affirms Hockney's position as a leading figure in contemporary painting. The combination of new intimate portraits and the large-scale frieze offers insight into the artist's dual focus on personal relationships and expansive landscapes. Curators and collectors may note the emphasis on free public access as part of broader efforts to engage wider audiences with established artists' work.
