The Facts

On October 22, 2026, Sharjah Art Foundation announced the learning programme for its ninth Sharjah Film Platform (SFP9), featuring five courses and a masterclass running from October 23 to November 22, 2026, at venues in Sharjah. Led by filmmakers and educators including Bentley Brown, Abdulrahman Al Madani, Mahmoud Kaabour, Abderrahmane Sissako, and Rashmi Devi Sawhney, the programme covers film criticism, scriptwriting, documentary ethics, and film archives. The Director in Focus Masterclass features Abderrahmane Sissako, with screenings of his films Bamako (2006), Timbuktu (2014), and Black Tea (2024). All courses are conducted in English, except the masterclass which is in French with Arabic and English translation.

The Signal

The learning programme underscores Sharjah Art Foundation's commitment to film education as part of its broader cultural mission. Sharjah Film Platform is an annual festival of independent cinema centered around the open-air Mirage City Cinema in Sharjah's historical quarter. By offering practical and theoretical engagement with film, the programme provides participants with tools to critically analyze moving images and their role in shaping narratives, reflecting a growing trend among art institutions to integrate film education into their programming.
