The Facts

On October 21, 2026, Sharjah Art Foundation announced an open call for proposals for the ninth edition of Focal Point, the foundation's annual art book fair. The fair will take place from December 11 to 13, 2026, at Bait Obaid Al Shamsi in Arts Square, Sharjah. UAE-based artists, designers, artist-led initiatives, and collectives are invited to submit proposals describing printed materials they wish to display and sell, such as artist books, zines, magazines, prints, stickers, and posters. Selected applicants may also be asked to curate a table featuring publications from their wider community. Proposals must be submitted by November 10, 2026.

The Signal

Focal Point is part of Sharjah Art Foundation's broader mission to support experimental and independent publishing practices in the region. The fair provides a platform for local artists and collectives to showcase and sell their work, fostering a community around printed materials. Sharjah, designated UNESCO's Arab Capital of Culture in 1998 and World Book Capital in 2019, continues to position itself as a cultural hub in the UAE, and the foundation's initiatives like Focal Point reinforce this identity.
