The Facts
Southbank Centre is presenting 'Accounts' (2025) by Alex Margo Arden as part of British Art Show 10. The installation features 11 mannequins previously used in displays at the National Motor Museum, now tethered together with a tug-of-war rope. Arden, born in 1994 in Croydon and based in London, completed postgraduate studies at the RA Schools in 2025 and won the inaugural Nicoletta Fiorucci Foundation Prize at Frieze London that year. Her practice spans sculpture, installation and research, examining the museum as a stage where history is constructed and performed.
The Signal
Arden's recognition by British Art Show 10, a major national survey, comes just after her graduation from the RA Schools and the Frieze prize, marking her as an emerging artist to watch. The work, drawn from the Arts Council Collection with Ginny on Frederick, repurposes institutional displays to challenge how museums produce historical narratives. For collectors, her rapid institutional backing offers a signal of growing market relevance, while the work itself aligns with a broader contemporary turn toward institutional critique and object-based sculpture.
