The Facts
Southbank Centre will present Manchester Collective and percussionist Sidiki Dembélé in concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on October 4, 2026. Dembélé, drawing from his family's griot tradition, will perform his works including 'Teriya' and 'Siniensigui' alongside traditional pieces arranged by violinist Rakhi Singh, who directs the ensemble. The program also features the London premiere of 'For You, small in the embrace of untethered, unwinding possible futures' by composer and multidisciplinary artist Nwando Ebizie, as well as compositions by Purcell, Playford, Edmund Finnis, and Emily Hall. The evening, titled 'Constellations', explores the meeting of West African and European musical traditions.
The Signal
The concert underscores Southbank Centre's focus on cross-cultural programming and its residency relationship with Manchester Collective. For institutions and programmers, the event signals a growing embrace of Afrofuturist and diasporic narratives within classical and contemporary music, positioning live performance as a space for cultural dialogue. Collectors and curators tracking institutional trends may see this as indicative of increased commissioning of works that blend heritage with experimental forms.
