Stedelijk Museum and Rijksmuseum Jointly Acquire Photographs by Carrie Mae Weems
The Stedelijk Museum and the Rijksmuseum have acquired three works from Carrie Mae Weems’s 2021 series 'Painting the Town,' which documents the aftermath of Black Lives Matter protests in Portland. The Stedelijk acquired 'Painting the Town #2' with support from the Mondriaan Fund, while the Rijksmuseum purchased 'Painting the Town #3' and '#4' via the VriendenLoterij and the Women of the Rijksmuseum Fund. The series will be exhibited at the Rijksmuseum from February 7 to June 9, 2025, alongside the 'American Photography' exhibition.
