On July 17, 2026, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam announced 'Adam Pendleton: Some Wild Kind of Language', an exhibition opening October 8, 2026. The show transforms the museum's historic 1895 staircase—originally painted white by curator Willem Sandberg in 1938 to create one of the first 'white cubes'—into a 'black cube' for eight monumental Basis drawings made with gold ink on matte black paper, the largest drawings Pendleton has completed. In the IMC Gallery (Gallery of Honour), his paintings, including a nearly six-meter-wide work, enter into dialogue with the museum's collection of Minimalist, Conceptual, and post-war abstraction by artists such as Barnett Newman and Morris Louis. The exhibition is curated by Stedelijk director Rein Wolfs.
