Stedelijk Museum to Present 2024 Best Book Designs Exhibition Starting November 8
The Stedelijk Museum and Stichting De Best Verzorgde Boeken present the annual selection of the most carefully designed Dutch publications of 2024. A total of 269 books were submitted, with the professional jury selecting 30 titles and the student jury selecting 32 titles, of which 13 appear on both lists. The exhibition opens November 8 at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and highlights books distinguished by content, design, lithography, typography, materials, printing and binding.
The Signal
The jury observed continued popularity of Swiss and fishbone bindings alongside rising use of brown fibrous paper and plastic sleeves, with experimentation in extended dust jackets and book edges for navigation. Most selected titles fall in art, photography and architecture, providing collectors and curators with a benchmark for production standards in contemporary publishing. The modular display system designed by Paul Kuipers accommodates varied formats without visual distraction.
