The Facts

On October 21, 2026, the Studio Museum in Harlem announced that Turiya Adkins, Timothy Yanick Hunter, and Clifford Prince King have been selected as the 2026–27 participants in its Artist-in-Residence program. The residency runs from November 2026 through October 2027, providing each artist with studio space, professional development, and a culminating exhibition. The current exhibition of the 2026 cohort, "a sustained becoming: Studio Museum Artists in Residence 2026," is on view through January 3, 2027.

The Signal

The residency is foundational to the museum's mission, supporting early-career artists of African descent. With over 150 alumni, including notable figures like Jordan Casteel and Kerry James Marshall, the program continues to be a launching pad for significant careers. The new purpose-built home, opened in November 2025, enhances the residency's resources and visibility.
