The Facts

Swiss Post will issue a new postage stamp honoring Alberto Giacometti on March 5, 2026, marking the 125th anniversary of his birth and the 60th anniversary of his death. The official launch takes place on March 4, 2026, at Kunsthaus Zürich, featuring the iconic sculpture 'L’Homme qui marche I' (1960). The stamp, designed in a vertical format (20 × 44 mm) to echo Giacometti’s elongated figures, was developed in collaboration with curator Carolin A. Geist. Since February 6, 2026, the museum has presented a newly conceived display of Giacometti’s works in its Chipperfield building, with a planned expansion in early 2027.

The Signal

The stamp project extends Giacometti’s public visibility beyond the museum, following the precedent of his image on the 100-franc note. For collectors, the unusual vertical format and the stamp’s association with a major anniversary year add philatelic and cultural value. The launch at Kunsthaus Zürich, which holds the world’s largest museum collection of Giacometti’s work, reinforces the institution’s role as a central hub for the artist’s legacy, while the ongoing display update signals a sustained institutional commitment to his oeuvre.
