Tate Launches 'Tate Schools' Digital Platform for UK Classrooms with Bloomberg Philanthropies Support
Tate launched Tate Schools, a free online platform offering resources for teachers and students to use works from the museum's national collection in classrooms. The website provides activities and challenges for pupils from primary and secondary schools, with features designed for SEND accessibility and alignment to curriculum goals. Development was guided by teacher input, and the platform is supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Digital Accelerator for Arts and Culture programme. Director Maria Balshaw and Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy both spoke at the launch, which included a workshop at Vicarage Primary School in East Ham, London.
The Signal
The initiative extends Tate’s existing reach, which already brings over 140,000 schoolchildren into its galleries each year, by removing barriers to access for institutions facing stretched resources. It complements Tate Kids, which recorded 5.6 million views in 2024, and Tate Collective, the world’s largest youth museum membership scheme with more than 180,000 active members aged 16 to 25. For museums and educators, the platform signals a scalable model for digital engagement that can sustain audience development even when physical visits decline.
