Tate Lends L.S. Lowry Painting to Salford School in First-Ever Loan to a UK Educational Institution
Tate has lent L.S. Lowry’s Dwelling, Ordsall Lane, Salford 1927 to The Lowry Academy in Worsley. The painting, which shows a crowd of children on a residential road, served as the centerpiece of arts and careers workshops for students this week. This marks the first time Tate has lent a work from its collection to a school. Students created responses to the artwork and explored roles such as curator, art handler and marketing advisor with Tate experts.
The Signal
The loan advances Tate’s strategy of distributing its collection across the UK, including to smaller venues, to reach new audiences and support careers in the arts. It aligns with Tate’s record of lending hundreds of works annually and last year’s distribution of collection pieces to over 3 million visitors outside its galleries. The initiative also supports Tate Schools, an online platform providing free resources to classrooms nationwide.
