Tate Modern to Stage First Major UK Exhibition of Ana Mendieta in Over a Decade
Tate Modern will present the UK’s first major exhibition dedicated to multidisciplinary artist Ana Mendieta in over a decade, opening July 15, 2026. The show features over 150 works arranged thematically, including the Silueta Series 1973-80, newly remastered films, paintings, drawings, late sculptures and restaged installations. It runs through January 17, 2027, at Tate Modern, Bankside, London, and is curated by Michael Wellen, Valentine Umansky and Elsa Collinson in collaboration with the Estate of Ana Mendieta.
The Signal
The exhibition underscores Mendieta’s transnational significance by placing her earth-body practice and engagement with displacement, ecology and ritual within a global framework that Tate’s Hyundai-supported research centre has helped shape. Restaged outdoor works and newly accessible films position her as a pivotal reference for contemporary artists exploring impermanence, site and the female form, signalling sustained institutional commitment to her legacy ahead of further programming in September 2026.
