Tate Modern to Stage Yvonne Rainer's Trio A for 60th Anniversary in Turbine Hall
Tate Modern will present free performances of Yvonne Rainer's seminal dance work "Trio A" in the Turbine Hall on July 10 and 11, 2026, marking the 60th anniversary of the piece's creation. The performances, running from 14.00 to 20.00 each day, are supported by Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels and produced in collaboration with Rose Choreographic School. This marks the first live UK performance of the work in 12 years. The choreography will be transmitted by Sara Wookey, one of eight certified transmitters of Rainer's repertoire, leading a group of dancers. A screening of Rainer's 1978 film of "Trio A" will also play in the Tanks Lobby, and Rainer will give a remote artist talk on July 11 alongside Catherine Wood, Interim Director of Tate Modern, and others.
The Signal
The programming underscores Tate Modern's ongoing commitment to performance and participatory art, following recent commissions like nora chipaumire's Infinities Commission and Lina Lapelytė's UNIQLO Tate Play. For collectors and curators, the event reaffirms Rainer's foundational role in post-modern dance and its intersection with visual art, particularly minimalism. The institutional backing from Tate and Van Cleef & Arpels signals sustained market and museum interest in performance-based works from the 1960s avant-garde, potentially elevating the value and visibility of related archival materials and editions.
