On September 1, 2026, Thaddaeus Ropac Gallery announced the opening of Fonds Bustamante, a new institution dedicated to the work of French artist Jean-Marc Bustamante, housed in the restored 12th-century Église Sainte-Croix in Arles. Architect Charles Zana led the restrained renovation, preserving original stone walls and arches while making contemporary interventions visible. The space opened in conjunction with the ongoing Les Rencontres photography festival, returning Bustamante to the city where he presented his first exhibition at the Musée Réattu in 1973. Bustamante, now 74, represented France at the São Paulo Biennale in 1994 and the Venice Biennale in 2003, and served as director of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris for four years.
