Thaddaeus Ropac to Host Screening of Oliver Beer’s Video Opera 'The Cave' in London
Thaddaeus Ropac is hosting a one-off screening of Oliver Beer's video opera The Cave during the artist's London exhibition The Sky in the Cave. The work was filmed in the Paleolithic caves of Dordogne at La Grotte de Font-de-Gaume and transforms the site's acoustic properties into a video and sound installation. It features a new composition by Beer performed by eight singers including Rufus Wainwright, Woodkid, eee gee, Mélissa Laveaux, Hamed Sinno, Jean Christophe Brizard, Mo'Ju and Michiko Takahashi. The piece was first presented at the 17th Lyon Biennale in 2024-2025.
The Signal
The screening demonstrates Beer's ongoing focus on site-specific sound works that link contemporary composition with prehistoric spaces. It reflects the gallery's programming of interdisciplinary projects that extend beyond traditional exhibition formats. Collectors and curators may note the continued institutional interest in multimedia installations that engage historical acoustics and vocal performance.
