Whitney Museum and Hyundai Motor Company Unveil Kelly Akashi Commission for 2026 Biennial

The Whitney Museum of American Art and Hyundai Motor Company have announced a site-specific commission by artist Kelly Akashi for the 2026 Whitney Biennial, running from March 8 to August 23, 2026. The installation, titled 'Monument (Altadena)', features a reconstructed chimney from the artist's former home and studio which were destroyed by fire in 2025. The presentation marks the third project under a 10-year partnership between the museum and Hyundai Motor established in 2024.
