The Facts

The Whitney Museum will present 'artport: A History of Internet Art', a survey of net art marking the 25th anniversary of its online gallery space artport. Opening November 21, 2026, the exhibition features over 100 works commissioned for artport, spanning categories from Gate Pages (2001–2006) to ongoing Commissions and the Sunrise/Sunset series (2009–2024). It includes the world premiere of 'Human Unreadable Act III' by the artist duo Operator, a live performance on November 19, 21, and 22. The show is organized by Christiane Paul, Curator of Digital Art, with David Lisbon and Colin Brooks.

The Signal

The exhibition highlights the Whitney's role in supporting internet art and offers a comprehensive look at the medium's evolution. For collectors, it provides insight into the development of net art from early web experiments to contemporary AI-driven works. The inclusion of live performance underscores the ongoing dialogue between digital and physical art forms.
