Acquisition Almine Rech

Almine Rech has announced that Alejandro Cardenas's 2024 painting 'Elements of Chance' has entered the Blanca and Borja Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection. The work, executed in oil on linen measuring 127 x 101.6 cm, will be placed on loan to the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, Spain. Cardenas is represented by Almine Rech, which disclosed the acquisition via a press release.

The Signal

The inclusion of 'Elements of Chance' in a prominent European private collection with strong museum ties signals growing institutional recognition for Cardenas, whose practice blends figuration with surrealist and mythological references. For collectors, the loan to a major Madrid museum adds a public provenance that could enhance the work's long-term value and the artist's secondary-market standing. It also reinforces Almine Rech's strategy of placing contemporary Latin American-born artists into established European collections.
