André Butzer's 'Frauenbildnisse' Acquired by Städel Museum, Galerie Max Hetzler Announces

On August 19, 2026, Galerie Max Hetzler announced that a recent reiteration of André Butzer's 'Frauenbildnisse' has entered the permanent collection of the Städel Museum in Frankfurt am Main. Another Butzer painting, Untitled (2019), was acquired by the University of California, Merced, and is on view in an exhibition of new acquisitions through 3 October 2026. Butzer's work is featured in group exhibitions at Museum Pier, Bangkok; Brandenburgisches Landesmuseum für moderne Kunst; MUZEU, Braga; Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig; and CentroCentro Madrid. His paintings are held in the permanent collections of the Hamburger Kunsthalle and the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, where Untitled (Fränzi) is displayed alongside its Kirchner antecedent.
