Artcurial to Auction Christian Levett and Jean-Jacques Rotthier Antiquities Collections in Paris
Artcurial will hold an antiquities auction on May 12, 2026, presenting the second part of the Christian Levett collection of ancient arms and armor from the former Mougins Museum of Classical Art. The sale also includes the Jean-Jacques Rotthier collection of Egyptian antiquities spanning the Predynastic to Roman periods, a Belgian collection of Mediterranean objects, and sections of Islamic and Indian art. Highlights comprise a Greek bronze Phrygian helmet, an Egyptian wood coffin for Iahtesnakht, a Cycladic marble idol, and a Mughal Qur'an section.
The Signal
The Levett collection, assembled over two decades and displayed at the Mougins Museum until its 2023 closure, offers museum-quality pieces from Urartu through Classical Greece and Rome. The Rotthier collection, formed by the Belgian collector who died in 2009, features nearly seventy works including a wooden boat model and a rare funerary mask, many previously lent to European exhibitions. The auction provides collectors access to objects with documented provenance from major private holdings.
