Artcurial to Host First All-Ceramics Auction on October 23, 2026
Artcurial will hold its first auction dedicated entirely to ceramics on October 23, 2026, in Paris. Curated by Jean-Marc Dimanche, co-founder of Ceramic Brussels, the sale features works by contemporary and historical artists including Carolein Smit, Kim Simonsson, Betty Woodman, Jacques Blin, and Georges Jouve. Notable lots include a blue glazed vase by Blin (est. €3,000–4,000), a bottle vase by Jouve (est. €5,000–7,000), and a stoneware vessel by Japanese artist Shōzō Michikawa (est. €500–800). A preview exhibition runs from October 17 to 23, 2026.
The Signal
The auction signals growing institutional and market recognition of ceramics as a fine art medium, reflecting renewed collector interest. The cross-generational selection—from 20th-century French ceramicists to contemporary sculptors—highlights the medium's breadth. Woodman's landmark Metropolitan Museum retrospective and the inclusion of Japanese artists held in major collections underscore ceramics' integration into the fine art market.
