The Facts
Bonhams will offer the 'Somerset Hoard', a collection of seven veteran cars hidden away since World War II, at its Golden Age of Motoring Sale on Friday 30 October at New Bond Street, London. Leading the sale is a 1904 Darracq Twin-Cylinder 10HP Swing-Seat Tonneau with an estimate of £150,000–£200,000, alongside a 1910 Brasier 12/18HP 12C Tourer at £40,000–£60,000, sold without reserve. The collection, acquired in the 1930s and passed down through generations, also includes a c.1903 Baker electric, a c.1902 Progress, a 1913 Belsize, a Rover 8HP, a c.1904 Swift, and a c.1903 Darracq 12hp.
The Signal
The hoard, untouched for more than eight decades, is a landmark find for the veteran car market, where intact period collections rarely surface. Bonhams' positioning of the sale as a curtain raiser to the London to Brighton run reinforces its leadership in the niche, with estimates ranging from £10,000 to £200,000 offering broad collector access.
