Bonhams Hong Kong Announces Yayoi Kusama Single-Owner Auction and Hsiao Chin Selling Exhibition
Bonhams will stage the live auction MORE THAN RED: A Single Owner Collection of Exceptional Works by Yayoi Kusama on 28 March 2026 and the selling exhibition Hsiao Chin: Great Ego in Infinity from 18 March to 9 April 2026 in Hong Kong. The auction offers six works fresh to the market from a Japanese private collection, led by the red Pumpkin (2000) estimated at HK$15,000,000-25,000,000. The exhibition presents more than 20 works spanning Hsiao Chin's seven-decade career, from his co-founding of the Ton Fan Group and Punto International Art Movement to later series exploring cosmic and Buddhist themes.
The Signal
The pairing underscores sustained global demand for the abstract practices of these two Asian post-war pioneers, whose works already reside in collections such as MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and M+. Marcello Kwan noted that the collector base for both artists spans major museums and private collectors, with abstract pieces showing continued market momentum. The events allow collectors to assess both current pricing and the longer-term institutional positioning of Kusama and Hsiao Chin within 20th-century abstraction.
